Re: Civil War Mississippi Rifle
In Response To: Civil War Mississippi Rifle ()

There were lots of the so-called Mississippi Rifle in U S Armories in The South and many came into Confederate possession. They were very common in PACS units early in The War and remained in use by some men and some units throughout. By mid-war, most frontline units were pretty uniformly armed since the quartermasters did not want to deal with a great variety of ammunition. The AOT had at least 300K Austrian Lorenz .54 rifled muskets. The ANV used .577 P1853 Enfields or captured .58 US Springfields with a smattering of .58 Richmonds made from US Armory tooling.
