I'll have to work on a specific source; read it somewhere. If you've ever handled an Enfield, you can understand it though. I don't know how well the sight would stand up to hard usage, and I can understand a temptation to just knock it off, especially since it was the rare soldier who used his weapon for other than short range fire.
