I have seen several original Richmond rifle-muskets with ramrods that resembled the M1842, with tapering trumpet heads,(smooth rather than cupped face, and straight shafts. The heads on such ramrods have a smaller circumference than on the M1842, to fit the .58 bore. They also have original screw threads, so they did not appear to be cut down M1842 ramrods. Does anyone have information on the production of such ramrods at Richmond, or is there a Federal musket that could have used them.
