Gary:

I assume your signature indicates you are in California. I am in Valley Springs (about 20 miles east of Stockton). I have cleaning materials for my modern weapons, so that is no problem. The inside of the barrel is tending toward some minimal rust, so I expect cleaning and a light coat of oil is in order. My collection includes the cleaning device for the ram rod. As for the rest of the gun, can you suggest where I might find some Rennaisance Wax?

With the exception of the bayonet case, which has a spot where it looks like it got bent in the middle (very likely during the war while the leather was still reasonably hydrated), the leather items are in very good shape, but very dry. Do you have any suggestions as to how they might best be preserved?

Thanks
Bart
