Federal infantry long arms( western theater)

I just browsed through a diary written by a member of the 61st Illinois Infantry who mentioned that most of the western federal troops were armed with imported rifled-muskets(prussian I believe he said) before 1863. He stated that his outfit was issued these when they passed through Benton Barracks in St. Louis. Were these .69 cal. weapons? I know that my gggpa`s campsite ( 33rd Missouri) at Helena had a lot of .69 cal. dropped minies. Steve
