I have a Union cartridge box, cap box, and belt all in excellent condition except for loss of color on the flaps of the boxes where the leather flexes. I also have a sword of similar vitntage with a leather grip that is starting to flake slightly and has shrunk a bit away from its spiral wire binding.

Does anyone have any information on appropriate preservation of old, dry leather to keep it from cracking?
