Hello,
Much of the early war units and companies depended on the unit's sponsers. Daniel Pratt, the founder of Prattville, Al., payed out of his own pocket for the Prattville Dragoon's uniforms of black broadcloth with gold embroidery, furnished many of the men's horses, and all of their equipment. In the little book, "War History of the Prattville Dragoons", written by its captain after the war, he says that at first they were issued standard cav accoutrements; sabres and 36 Colt Navies. He said that later they carried Enfields and most did away with their sabres as being too clumsy to use with their "Enfield artillery". The Prattville Dragoons became Co. "H", 3rd Alabama Cavalry and served under Wheeler's command.
