Sir,

First, what school does your child go to that even allows the children to do anything relating to the War Between the States other than the politically correct diatribe of the "racist South subjugating the black population, etc, etc, etc." I applaud the effort or open-mindedness of the school.

General Patrick Cleburne had two of his artillery pieces camouflaged at Ringgold Gap, Georgia on the retreat from Tennessee and the crews removed the camouflage just prior to firing in the faces of Hooker's Corps. I don't have access to his report currently but you may want to check the last chapter of "Shipwreck of Their Hopes" by Peter Cozzens.

A couple of other incidents that I can think of off the top of my head is the uniforms of the Berdan Sharpshooters. Their uniforms were green in an attempt to make them less inconspicuous. Here is a link to some a group that tell the story of these men, re-enact them, etc.

Another incident would be at Bentonville. Some of the soldiers attempted to conceal themselves with pine boughs. I don't recall if it were Northern or Southern soldiers. The incident I believe is recalled in the book "Last Stand in the Carolinas: The Battle of Bentonville" by Mark L. Bradley.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
