Help with Civil War Sharpshooter

I am looking for help in identifying this rifle. Percussion Cap. Octogonal Barrel, Aprox. 31" long. 1 1/2 inch. diameter. Underneath it says Remington S. Steel. On top it says, "Recut by J.N. Gardner Scranton, P.A." Around 40 lbs. It is HEAVY. Has what looks like a mount for a bipod on the front. Seems to have 2?! triggers? No other markings seem to appear. When I searched for pictures of the rifle, I found that the 1848 Morgan Rifle looks the closest to this, but ours does not have a scope. ANY help on the identification of this rifle would be much appreciated. I can't imagine having to carry this rifle around.
