There is a regimantal history out on the 11th PA Cav but it is somewhat hard to find. It has been a while since I read it but if memory serves me correct they were not issued carbines until sometime in 1863. Prior to that they were armed with .36 cal pistols and sabres. I found one of their camps in Portsmouth and the most common bullet found was the .36 cal pistol followed by the .44 cal pistol. There were a few sharps, smith and merrell carbine bullets found in the vicinity but not in the tent sites of the camp.
