I was wondering what the Confederacy used for sources of carbines. Did they use only guns manufactured for ease of use on horseback, or since many men provided their own equipment, did they cut down long arms of various types? I was also wondering if they did cut down a longer weapon would that be only preformed by a trained gunsmith, or could a blacksmith or someone with a hacksaw perform this task?
