A great image, thanks for bringing it to all of our attention. My not so well trained eye leads me to believe it's a commutation type jacket, common to many going off to war early on. I wish I knew what color/type material the jacket was, and his trousers too. I note the jacket is darker than his trousers, and has a collar that’s folded down. 7 buttons on his jacket?

I looked at the belt; it looks like a roller buckle type. Note that he has it around the waist of his trousers, and not outside on/over the lower section of his jacket.

The shirt collar appears to be a fold-down design; typical of what you see today, one side is down under the collar of the jacket, the other side is up.

I like his hat!

Geoff, and many others are more qualified than myself, to detail the photo for you. I like the image! If this picture could only talk.
