Who would have carried an Austrian M150 saber?

I have just inherited an Austrian-made M1850 cavalry saber. Its marking says "A & E Holler / Solingen." On the other side is stamped "GF" for the Austrian inspector and the Austrian double-headed eagle. The handle is worn as is the scabbard. It was last owned by my great-grandfather who was a Sgt. in 92nd IL Vol. Mt. Infantry, but he may have been given this by his brother who was in the 1st. IL Cavalry. Research seems to indicate that this was probably a Conf. weapon, and therefore a battleground find. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
