cannonball?

I found a very interesting ball of iron yesterday in the middle of where the Union Line was set during the Battle of Bayou Fourche. It is slightly oblong, however, and want to rule out it being a ballbearing. It has very heavy pitting and it measures around the equator 4 14/16 inches and 5 2/16 around the poles. That, I believe, would be a 1/4 inch difference from equator and pole circ. Is there anyone here that could shed light on whether an artillery piece would have been present at this battle that would have shot this out? In short, it is about the size of a golf ball. Thank you all in advance for any info shed onto this possible artifact.
