Thanks for your time and kind help!!!!!!

Unless we can obtain convincing provenience documentation, I am not overly optimistic that we will ever be able to confirm/deny the shotgun actually belonged to Col. John Griffith of the 17th and 11th/17th Ark. Infantries.

In Arkansas alone, there were at least 12 CSA soldiers with the name "John Griffith"; as you say, the gun may or may not been used during the WBTS or before or after the war. Who knows...????

It does appear that the mfg. of the shotgun is Deane, Adams, & Deane of London, England. Apparently confederate soldiers did use these shotguns. The fellow who has the gun and made contact with me, Bryan Wilkey, is interacting with some CW era gun historians and a company in NH trying to obtain more information.
