I am assembling a Confederate Texas cavalry sergeant's early war pattern mixed-gray uniform, yellow band kepi with 1-1/2" yellow leg stripes for NCOs.

After some research of the bayonets and scabbards, and in order to be compatible with such a cavalry uniform, I am considering the purchase of a Euroarms 1853 Enfield Musketoon (carbine) with a 1856 Enfield pattern 23-1/2" saber bayonet and frog. The Enfield musketoon weighs 7-3/4 lb. compared to a Enfield 3-band rifle at 10-1/4 lb. They fire the same load and ball size.

The only thing I am concerned about is that the equipment will be a little too fancy for a Confederate soldier but since it is an early war (1861) it may be OK.

Please advise.
