The chain-firing tendency in revolvers, rifle or pistol, was easily controlled by adding a dollop of grease after the ball was driven home.
The significantly large gap between the barrel and cylinder face is what lead to the flame the noted rifleman referred to in my earlier post. I also read somewhere once the Colts Rifles were noted for shaving lead on the rear of the barrel as the bullet/ball left the cylinder and entered the barrel.
