Francis Herron's presentation sword

Does anyone have any idea what became of the presentation sword given to Major General Francis Herron when he was the Captain of Company I, First Iowa Infantry? It was given to him after the battle of Wilson's Creek and was the subject of an "international incident" after Pea Ridge. (Herron was captured at Pea Ridge, and when he was exchanged, the Confederate officer who took his sword refused to give it back. General Van Dorn finally had to order the officer to return the sword to Herron.)

I've been told that the sword is in the possession of a private collector in California. My interest in the sword is connected to my research on the 9th Iowa Infantry, which Herron commanded at the time of his capture.
