Thanks for the reply. While I don't have the plate in front of me, I'm at work, I would say it is stamped and not engraved. I'll take a closeup photo of it this evening and send it to you. Any information you can provide will be most appreciated. This is just one of 17 recovered last weekend. Another has a G stamped into the plate and another has initials engraved or etched on the tang. One butt plate has HH stamped into the underside of the tang, an inspector mark?

The others are in the process of being cleaned. Do you know of a market or collector demand for these?
