Well, Palmetto Ranch may have been the last land battle, but the last battle of The War was the engagements between the CSS Shenandoah and Yankee whalers off the Bering Sea coast of Alaska in June/July 65. Shenandoah wiped out the Yankee whaling fleets plying the Bering Sea. In the Alabama Claims dispute, the US was awarded $6.2 million dollars from Great Britain for the damage done by the British-built Shenandoah. As a refugee from Yankee occupied Georgia, I love the delicious irony that most of the $7.2 MM the US paid for Alaska was paid by the British for the damage done by a Confederate Navy ship.
