Claims on a Brown Bess

I have a nephew who told me today of gun collector he is working with in Texas who has what he is stating as an original Brown Bess for sale. The musket has been converted to percussion and this is leading him to believe it may possibly have been carried by a militiaman at the outset of the WBTS. Are their any written accounts of converted Brown Bess's showing up like this?

The man is including a written, notarized state of provenence so I think he may be legit. But, if so, the $1250 he is trying to sell the gun for seems a tad low to me, especially since my nephew states he believes the gun is a shooter. Is my nephew in danger of getting ripped off?

It is odd that this has happened because my 11 year old son is writing a report this week on piracy for his history class and he asked me if it was possible any Brown Bess muskets made their way to the WBTS. I guess anything is possible but it seems far fetched to me. Am I in error?
