I have confirmed that the example that I referenced here is indeed made of gray wool from Tuscaloosa.

That example is the hat worn by Gen. Robert E. Lee at the Appomattox surrender. It was made by the Leach and Avery manufacturing complex in Tuscaloosa, which included a wool carding facility and a hat factory among other manufacturing industries.

There is now a known and confirmed example of Tuscaloosa grey wool, which so many have expressed doubt as to the existence of such.
