Thank you both. What a wonderful message board. I wish I'd discovered this place long ago. I am writing a fictional account that takes place during the CW. My book cover art has just arrived and the Confederate soldier carrying his rifle is blocking the view of where the strap hooks on, so it doesn't really matter, but looks like it would have been covered either way. Although, did only the North have adjustable straps, or did the South as well? I love this trivia.
