Whitworth rifle

I understand that Mississippi had a small unit of sharpshooters that used Whitworth rifles. I have located in a Mississippi antique store what seems to be a Whitworth sporting style rile. It has a 36 inch octagonal barrel, hexagonal 45 caliber bore, typical Whitworth lock with that unusual wedge shaped lever, standard sights, double set trigger, brass furniture, halfstocked with one pin, rammer not quite the length of the barrel and the butt plate a deep curving type with long extensions on the comb and toe. No patch box OR makers name, only J.P. Lower stamped behind the rear sight on the barrel. I know JP sold guns before and during the war, wonder if anyone else has seen CSA used Whitworths of this sporting style, or any other weapons marked by J.P. Lower?

Best regards
