1858 Remington Army .44

Greetings,
I have recently found what I believe to be a 1858 Remington Army .44. It was found near Fort Barnwell on the Tar River in North Carolina. The gun is heavily rusted but easily retains the classic features that allowed me to identify it. Based on where I found it and the fact that the hammer is in the cocked position I imagine that the original owner was on the losing end of what ever battle he was in. My question, in this condition, is this something that would be of interest to a collector? Any input greatly appreciated.

Mike
