Enlisted Soldiers carried only what was necessary. Nothing in boxes was easy to carry unless the box is fairly small and would fit in a knapsack. While on the march the soldiers kitchen consisted of a tin cup, maybe a tin plate and a spoon or fork. A mess would usually have a skillet to share between them but not always. I have some of the items carried by the soldiers on the site below. I have never heard of a personal camp kitchen.
