The Michael J. Vreeland Papers at the US Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, PA contain quite a number of ordnance records kept by 1st Lt. Vreeland of Company I, 4th Michigan Regiment. He commanded his company at Gettysburg where he was severely wounded in the right breast, lung, shoulder, and right hand. He was hospitalized in Gettysburg and Baltimore after the battle, and died in 1927. The following is taken from the report dated 25 June 1863 on the eve of the battle.
