Was there a "correct" side on which to wear the cartidge box? Which shoulder would the belt that crossed the chest diagonally to hold up the cartidge box and waistbelt have been on?

Was the box regulated it be on one side or the other so that all men wore them on the same side, and the belt on the same shoulder crossing their chests all in the same direction, or did it depend on if each individual soldier was lefthanded or righthanded?
