Re: Northern Target Rifle (NTR) during WBTS

(Also posted on the MSCWMB) I recently discovered an interesting article about the NTR by Joe Jones (The 1860s Target Rifle), who is a CW reenactor who portrays a member of Co. D, 2nd US Sharpshooters. In his article, Jones gives a brief history of the NTR and also mentions that an NTR was found after the Battle of Gettysburg. That arm is believed to have been used by a Rebel sharpshooter to snipe at the Federal artillery from the Devil's Den. See the following site for Jones' article:

Does anyone KNOW that the NTR was used by both sides during the WBTS? and if so, to what extent? I would appreciate any information about this unique arm and its use during the war...........Joe Ashley (Colorado Springs, CO)

(And thanks to David Upton, who responded to my post
on the MSCWMB about the NRT)
