Pardon me for offering a "guess", I'm sure others will provide a more expert response. I'm guessing this is the tip for a pike. This weapon was issued in some numbers in the South at the beginning of the war and perhaps most famously, to the Georgia militia. I recall, at least, one Union regiment being issued these weapons early in the war.
