Piedmontese M1844/60 RM

I need some informations about the M1844/60 Piedmontese rifled musket used during the Civil War. They are usualy stamped with Belgian maker marks (F&T, Francotte etc.) and with dates after 1860. They have a screwed on fixed rearsight but some have an additional (no mistake!) adjustable rearsight in front of this - why?. The ones I observed in the USA have only the screwed sight. What is the cause of the model name 1844/60? As they were lockplate-marked "1861" it cannot be a conversion of a 1844 smoothbore model. Has anyone infos of the guns used by the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia during this period?
Best regards, Marc
