Can someone describe the kind of ammunition used by these English imports? Did they require factory-made cartridges, or could cartridges be made in the field?

Other than the Pratt roll for the 18th Virginia Cavalry, does anyone know of a source for small arms carried by other Virginia cavalry commands? I'm primarily interested in 1864, but any comments are welcome.
