Can anyone give more details on these two weapons issued to men of the 7th Regt. Miss. Inf. prior to Shiloh?

Excerpt from my regimental history manuscript "Lest We Forget-The Immortal Seventh Mississippi" Qouted from "Job M. Foxworth's Diary" Co. D 7th Miss.

"March 19th

Carolina Patent Muskets Issued—Hall Rifles Replaced

“Since the provisions were cooked, the order for each captain was to make out a list of the men in his company fit for service, the number of guns, the number of cartridges each one had. After this the companies who had the Hall rifles were sent down in town to get muskets. They seem to be very well satisfied with the exchange. Those they had were an inferior gun; these they now have are very good muskets—Carolina patent—some raised with sights.”[JFDiary transcription, pp. 128-134]
