I have a Sword (dress sword I believe as it quite ornate) and Scabbard with a leather handmade cover that has been in my family for generations. On the top of blade near the hilt is "The Pettibone MFG. Co Cincinnati O." and engraved in the middle of the blade is "Lt. Cd. Gruen". Can anyone tell me the history of the sword or the man whose name is enscribed on it.?
