Re: Northern Target Rifle (NTR) during WBTS

Two companies of Berdan's First U. S. Sharpshooters carried their personal target rifles off to war (Co. E & D). Some members of Co. F also carried their personal target guns too. In addition, the two companies of Andrew's Sharpshooters had target guns (not necessarily scoped) but the 2nd Andrew S.S. gave them up after Antietam. Apparently their knapsacks containing their accoutrements (molds, patch cutters, sizers) were taken and thus their target guns useless. Brady Michigan Sharpshooters also had a few scoped rifles, but theirs were lighter than the 25 pound plus target rifles carried by Berdan's men.
