The Arms & Equipment in the Civil War Message Board

Sir,

Before you jump into purchasing something from a Sutler at a reenactment, I AM SURE that you will want to research (because you came onto this board) to obtain the most accurate and correct frames to look period and not like some FARB. I recommend that you check out the Watchdog Review. They look at all type of available equipment and measure it against period artifacts in museums. Eyeglasses are covered in Volume 3, No. 4. You may want to also write to them and see if there are additional articles.

An issue that you may run into that I encountered is the thickness of the lense. You may want to consider a high index plastic lens and it will hopefully fit the frames better.

I hope this helps.
