Re: Firearms of the 2nd Colorado Cavalry

Hello again from New Zealand. Mr. Nichols, I somehow omitted from my previous post the information on the 2nd Colorado Cavalry under the heading Specific Regimental Issues on page 20 of the Osprey book The American Civil War in the Indian Territory: "2nd Colorado Volunteer Cavalry 1862: originally mustered in as an infantry regiment, it probably received the 1842 musket and some percussion conversions, as did the 1st Colorado. 1863: on being converted into cavalry it was issued the M1861 rifle-musket, Starr and Merrill carbines; Colt and Whitney Navy revolvers; Remington Army revolvers; Lefaucheux revolvers; M1840 and M1860 sabers." The problem with the McAulay books is that they are excellent references but they concentrate on carbines with very little reference to the revolvers or infantry longarms issued to union cavalry regiments.
