Shotguns

As an artillery reenactor I'm looking for a "semi" long arm to have while in camp or on the march. I know J.P. Murray carbines were made specifically for Confederate artillery. But I've seen a few "side by side" coach guns that I think would make an interesting and unique artillery sergeant's smoke pole. Anyone have any input here? I missed a nice specimen last weekend when a vendor left earlier than I expected at an event. I know from research that a lot of doubles (especially shorter ones) were made in Spain and shipped to the US where local gunsmiths added stock checkering and some minor engraving. Thus some of these antiques have no maker's marks and no serious history of origin. I don't want a bird gun but more of a stage coach gun. And I really don't want to buy a new gun and take a hacksaw to it. Any info would be appreciated.
