Hi Don,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, Ive seen the Verlinden IX Dahlgren. Excellent! I also found a fantastic 1/10 scale scratch built 150 Pounder Parrott Rifle made by Sheperd Paine that is very accurate. That´s exactly what I am currently working on but in 1/96 scale. The barrel is an inch and a half long. I have read that during the Civil War, the USS Susquehanna had two 150 Pounder Parrott Rifles. (As of Dec. 1865 it mounted 2 XI Dahlgrens) They are referred to as "Fore and Aft Swivel Guns". What I am still not sure of is how the Parrott Rifles were mounted and their placement on the ship. I guess it would be safe to say that they were mounted on a slide carriage like Sheperd Paines model although I have seen them also mounted on a single carriage similar to the "Marsilly Naval Carriage". I want the model to be as historically accurate as I can possibly get it but it´s not easy due to the lack of plans and photos of the ship. I just finished reading "Circle of Fire" by Peter Barratt, which was very good, and it provided a lot of useful information. I also have plans on the way of it´s sister ship, the USS Powhatan that I am going to use to build the Susquehanna. I just hope that they were both built using the same plans but probably, they were not. I´m sure that there are some differences. Anyway, it´s still a lot of fun working on this project. I´m just very picky about the details.
