Robert E. Lee painting

I got a painting in Chadds Ford Pa. about 30 years ago of a landscape of a fence along a river-looks like charcoal. The document that came with it stated that it was done by Robert E. Lee and was brought from the Arlington House by a Capt. Frank Medlar who was in charge of it after the Union forces took it. Have tried to trace Medlar with no success to try to link him to the Arlington House. Any help is appreciated. Brander Robinson
