Thus far, Gary, the only NTR that I know about that survived the War is the one at the Gettysburg NMP. You may have seen photos of it, if not, the following site may be of interest to you:

Perhaps there are other NTRs in other museums somewhere in the US, but I don't know of any, do you? And I agree with you that much provennance & stories have been lost to posterity because of someone's not recognizing the significance of some valuable CW articfact. I know of one CW pocket diary that was thrown away because the individual didn't recognize it as being of any value. ....Joe
