I am trying to determine the variety of weapons my ggpa may have had in the civil/indian wars. He joined the Iowa 13th infatry regiment in October 1861. According to an Intro to According to Civil War Small Arms, the 13th started with the Enfield Rifle Musket .577. He fought in many battles (Shiloh, Vicksburg, etc. until captured 7/64 outside of Atlanta and shuttled through Libby prison). I assume he was released (weighed 83 lbs.) some months later and discharged 10/64 with completion of 3 years in service. Re-enlisted 12/64 and was promptly sent to the Dakota Terratory -Ft. Thompson? Discharged in 12/67.
