I recall but one recorded instance of a soldier who was reported to have worn body armor at Gettysburg. I cannot put my finger on the source but I recall the writer saying that the minie ball or shell fragment struck the wearer of the vest in an area not covered by the armor; his choice of words suggested the wearer may have been shot in the groin area.
