I have what appears to be a Civil War Naval Battle Rattle/Alarm. I know that these were used through the 1940's for everything from naval warning signals to cold war civil defense alarms. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the characteristics of a Civil War era battle rattle versus one that is post war? The one that I have is approximately 7" long and is a single reed.
