Since nobody answered this post I will attempt to. First the CW Sharps did not use a metallic cartridge. Cartridges were made of paper or linen. After the round was loaded, when the breech closed it cut the end of the cartridge to expose the powder inside to the flame from the precussion cap. The Confederates made cartridges for the Sharps. There is a bullet called the Richmond Sharps which is attributed to Richmond manufacture. I will have to consult some reference books on the different calibers but I think during the CW .52 was standard.
