It was originally published in 3 volumes, dealing with US forces, CS forces, and US and CS navy forces plus the beginning of state forces.
These three volumes were reprinted in one volume but eliminated the state forces which had begun in the last volume. Then a second volume which included (and completed) the state forces portion was printed.
So, in effect, there are two different Volume 2's.
To sum it up, if you want the most complete information you need the original 3 volumes (either individual or the combined reprint) PLUS the 1983 Chatham Square Press volume on state forces.
