The Arms & Equipment in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Is my Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sword real?

Have you ever seen that new show on The History Channel called "Pawn Stars"? There was a slight discussion of it and some good stuff concerning sharpened saber blades just a few weeks ago. Search back on this message board to find the thread. Just click at the bottom of the page and back up to the relevant posts. Sabers are easy to fake. Not saying that yours is a fake. You'll need to find someone that can give you an accurate appraisal. Someone that can look at it and hold it. Pictures alone can't do it. As I stated in one of those earlier posts, sabers are very easily "faked". If you have something that has been handed down through the ages just hang on to it. If it's a fake then just hang on to it. They aren't worth a lot of money any way you approach it. Unless you have something that can be tagged to an individual soldier (provenance) it's going to be difficult to assign a value to it. Any way you look at it, it's not going to pay off your mortgage. Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive. You'll need to have someone with a knowledge of these weapons to evaluate your piece.
