Explosive/Poisoned Musket/Rifle Balls Used in WBTS

For an interesting & informative article about the above subject, see the following website:

http://www.csa-dixie.com/explosivemusketballs.htm

In part of his article, Rev. Horace Edwin Hayden says,"I most emphatically deny that the Confederates States ever authorized the use of explosive or poisoned musket or rifle balls." Furthermore, he continues, "I most emphatically assert that the United States did purchase, authorize, issue and use explosive musket or rifle balls during the late civil war, and that they were thus officially authorized and used at the battle of Gettysburg."

I would appreciate comments from anyone who reads the article and also from those who may have additional info about the use of explosive (or poisoned) musket/rifle balls in any battles during the WBTS.....Joe Ashley
