I would also add that it will depend on what time period you are talking about. At Fort Donelson for example, you would find a hodge-podge of uniforms, some units that had been militia units before the war would have similar dress, but subsequent units would be mix and match.

I think the Army of Tennessee would have looked more uniform during the Atlanta Campaign after its re-issue during the Winter camps near Dalton.
