Yes, I have seen a reference to Co. C of the 4th Texas being issued 84 of these Colt revolving rifles in May of 1861 and apparently corroborated by documentation in the Texas State Archives.
As if that is not unusual enough, the fact that cartridges for Colt revolving rifles were found in the 4th Texas' positions in the Petersburg trenches is even more astounding.
If indeed some members of Co. C of the 4th Texas Infantry still carried these Colt revolving rifles as late as Petersburg, as those cartridges being in the trenches seem to suggest, it begs the question just how the CS ordnance officers were able to supply these men with the unique cartridges necessary for these unusual weapons for more than three years?
